Synaesthesia is more common than you'd think.To varying (usually much lesser) degrees, the majority of the population have some elements though we'd not realise it.

Don't know.It's only really music, and it just relates to the tone of the sound - I don't see guitar solos as blue and dog barks as green etc.
I think it's just a way I developed to produce some sort of cognative vision of how I'd like something to sound. If I'm fiddling with a hifi, I'll think to myself 'na, needs a bit more black and a lot more white', which is to say a bit more bass and lots of treble. When I get it how I want it, the 'shade' I have produced is very clear in my mind.
On the other hand, I can't remember ever not hearing things like this. Maybe it's just a mild form.
