Brown/Pink noise?Also what are those...
I'm similiar with my sleeping habits expect I have tinnitus so sleeping in silence is nigh on impossible. Although I am shocked that your girlfriends wouldn't let you listen to your iPod?

The noises are simplePink noise is a slightly "deeper" version of white noise, for use of a better laymans term, and brown noise is an even deeper version of pink noise. Not a noise that causes you to shit yourself, although that'd be pretty fun.
The iPod thing comes about from the fact that every girlfriend I've had sleeping in the same bed as me just assumes I'm going to strangle myself/them with the cables by accident in the night. I've tried explaining it in reasonable terms but to no avail.
