I found an almost complete set of 1970s penguin "Complete Works" paperbacks in oxfam. Barely touched. They smell strongly of old lady but otherwise splendid.

Yes.
Fortunately I live in a university city and not a stockbroker commuter hole so the local oxfam has an excellent turnover of books. Yours probably has tweed suits and Jilly Cooper.
