This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

Grammar/Spelling

I once corrected a prominent member of parliament on the spelling and sentence construction in the signature of their email autoreply.

parents evening
Last week at parent's evening, my kid's English teacher was saying that just1kid "needs to work on the basics of spelling, punctuation and grammar. She's sat near the back of the class.."
I butt in with "sitting at the back", she acknowledges the correction and carries on, but I know what she'll be saying back in the staff room..

I hope it wasn't your kid she was referring to.

That would be funny.

shirley you're both wrong
and it should be "she sits at the back of the class"

unless you parents evenings take place during actual lessons

I think
he was referring to where the child was sitting at the time of the parents' night, not where the child sits during class.

and it is "surely"

grammar/spelling
It's surprising just how bad many prominent and intelligent people are at English. I sub-edit magazines written by lawyers, doctors and accountants - and they're all shit at punctuation. Accountants can barely construct a sentence.

More spelling
I corrected my daughter's teacher once- she'd written "squared" as "sqaured" on a drawer containing squared paper. My other half was mortified with embarrassment but I didn't care, this dizzy bird was responsible for my daughter's education. She gave my daughter a new label the following day and asked her to replace it. Sarky bitch.
