This is a question Performance

Have you ever - voluntarily or otherwise - appeared in front of an audience? How badly did it go?

Presenting to large audiences
is part of my job. That's about as close as I've got to any sort of performance in recent years.

I once did 300 slides over a period of 4 hours. I lost my voice for the last 15 minutes and had to point at the screen and grunt to emphasise which bits were important. Two people fabricated excuses to leave and one person fell asleep. When I finished, I got a round of applause.

That was some hardcore shit.

Why, oh why, oh why
do people insist on giving presentations when mailing round the slides and notes the day before followed by a 20-minute live q&a session will suffice and not waste nearly as much time?

I totally agree
It's mostly clients' fault, in my humble opinion. They don't feel like they're getting value unless you stand in front of a room and batter EVERY-SINGLE-FUCKING-BULLET-POINT into their resistant skulls.

You
are absolutely right.
