This is a question Public Transport Trauma

Completely Underwhelmed writes, "I was on a bus the other day when a man got on wearing shorts, over what looked like greeny grey leggings. Then the stench hit me. The 'leggings' were a mass of open wounds, crusted with greenish solidified pus that flaked off in bits as he moved."

What's the worst public transport experience you've ever had?

arriva, last weekend
Thought a 12 seat minibus was a perfect substitute for a 4 carriage train, and probably didn't foresee that more than about 12 people per half hour might need to use the route.

You'd think as a bus company they'd have some buses to use.

and yet
arriva controls (at least part of) the public transport in denmark as well, and i've been informed on more than one occasion that the next train was cancelled because of a lack of drivers...Isn't that kinda what they do...hire people to drive trains?

Just, gah
How the fuck they they win the cross country train contract off Virgin?

Arriva: "we maintain a crappy service in Wales that we've invested fuck all money in"

Virgin: "look, the route is fuxord, and we're working on it, and we've increased the numbers of trains, the variety of routes, pioneered the return of people getting cheapy tickets in advance. oh, and spent fuckloads on our trains, which rock."

This always amazes me
that they seem to be unable to get this right. On the busy routes - why don't they put more carriages on the trains and bigger replacement busses?

Central Trains are the same - the 8am train to Birmingham is going to be busy with commuters, so why do they only put 2 carriages on? A single car train turned up once - no way was anyone getting on or off!

I named that one the "Sardine Special"
