This is a question Money-saving tips

I'm broke, you're broke, we're all broke. Even the smug guy on the balcony with the croissant hasn't got two AmEx gold cards to rub together these days. Tell everybody your schemes to save cash.

Money saving
I brew my own beer, its easy, only I don`t add one bag of sugar, I add three (somtimes 2 sugars and 2 jars of honey) and top the barrel up with water to make 22 litres.
This increases the alcohol content to about 10%.
The only thing is that its too bloody strong and makes anyone drinking it go blind.
However a 2ltr bottle of pop from Lidl is 19p, so I put 40% eye murderer in and 60% lidl pop, its still strong enough to do the job and it tastes a lot better and you get to keep your eyesight. It works out at about 30p a pint.

Also I have an old Mercedes that runs on Veg oil which is £1 a litre in Tescos at the moment. I also get used veg oil free from various places and once you have sieved bits of chip out of it and bunged it in the tank it drives fine. The car is worth about £200 scrap value and no one would be crazy enough to steal it. I can also abandon it anywhere and not worry about car park dings as they wont make any difference.
Its never let me down as there are no electronics in it to go wrong, just a great big agricultural diesel engine that is good for 500,000 miles. And smells nice when going along too.
It was for sale but I have decided to keep it. www.rat-look.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=8730&p=125494#p125494

You did a great job of selling that car

No I still have it, I quite like it.
I had to tax it and buy a tyre.

See, another
money saving tip we can all benefit from;

'Don't waste money buying a new 12v socket for your car. Remove the jaffa cake from the old one, and put the money towards a holiday in Blackpool'.

Actually, use the money for a holiday in Blackpool. For 5 people.

30p for a pint of undrinkable death-juice?
Why aren't more people doing this?

Surely this belongs in last week's challenge

All cheap and good on the car front
unless you get rumbled by the police who do occasionally pick up on this wheeze in a regular tank-dipping exercise, then you may get knackered for fuel excise duty avoidance...

EDIT oops, apparently the law has changed and you can do it for the first 2500 litres per year so long as you keep a record/receipts etc. but not all diesels will take straight vegetable oil, some require modifications, some need a preheater before the fuel pump but it's also more viscous in the cold so best use it as a mix...

I have indeed been "dipped" by the nice people from HM customs.
Simply keeping Tescos receipts and knowing about the 2500 litre allowance helps (2500 liters = 21000 miles, I only do 4000) as for cold weather I just bung 5% petrol in the tank.
The old Merc engine doesnt need a preheater but I did fit a larger inline fuel filter.

Top hole then :-)
proceed.

If you're getting the oil for free
it would still save you money if you had to pay the fuel duty wouldn't it?

My Y Reg T4 runs lovely on veg oil too.
But what's this about £1.03/l?
I was in our local big tesco this morning and their cheapest is £1.33/l.
At only 7p/l saving the reduction in fuel economy and power isn't worth it.

The 5 litre bottles of Sunflower oil are £6 each or 2 for £10, the big round bottles.
Or the 5 litre KTC stuff from ASDA, but I have found that not all stores stock it.

You get a click..
Just for the description of the car - especially as you have "R2D2 and Stormtrooper sticker" as good points.
