Can anyone recommend any nice sandy beaches within about an hour's train from London? This weekend looks set to be a scorcher.

Is very nice and not far from London. Margate is close by too if you like that type of thing.

Gets busy quite quickly though and is a bugger to get to by train.

Southend is pretty good (Leigh-on-sea actually has a small strip of sandy beach too).
