If some catastrophic event led to you being 99.9% sure that the world was going to end,
and the final thing you wanted to do is have sex, would you still use a condom?

Think about the irony

# I'm American
And I make my own beer. Therefore by definition, "American Beer." It is a most heady brew that tastes vaguely like root beer. Knocks you on your ass (about 18% by volume).
(, Wed 10 Mar 2004, 5:41, archived)
# As have I
and it is delightful.

By comparison, would you compare your brew to the heartlessness of typical American beer?

American beer is like having sex in a canoe, because it's "fucking close to water"
(, Wed 10 Mar 2004, 5:45, archived)
# I get the joke...
I never buy the mass produced stuff. I used to live about 2 miles from the Thomas Kemper brewery... Good stuff.

I live close to Hale's Ales, although my favorite local (Seattle, WA, USA) brew is Mac and Jack's African Amber. It's double hopped and damn yummy.

# certainly Miller

(, Wed 10 Mar 2004, 5:43, archived)
# I was once in Milwaulkee, Wisconsin
and asked for a 'local beer'. They offered me Miller. Realizing the bartendress was clueless, I then asked for any micro-brew.

# Miller High Life
Is the worst beer I've ever had.

And yet, I've a friend here, who's Canadian who will defend it for hours on end when he's toasted. Canadian beer is superior by far to American, and yet...

Oh well

Yay for homemade though. If it's black and gurgles at me when I'm about to drink it, I'm all for it!
(, Wed 10 Mar 2004, 5:47, archived)
# Miller High Life
is not a *terrible* American beer. I like the bottle shape better than the contents, and so have many of my dates. Good in a pinch.

(an imprompteu secret I'll share with you all)

I'm numb to it. When I see something like Goatse.cx, I'm more curious about how much he's practiced, rather than being offended by it. While it's not a typical thing, it's a normal thing taken to extremes.

People learn from it, which makes it good.

Of course, I'm bi, so I might be a little less daunted by what I see.

I work for myself, so I get on at all hours of the day. Day shift is a LOT different than night shift.

Don't undersell the night shift, though. There are a few (mostly lurking) that are quite talented. Our volume is less (and spam a bit more), but there is still talent to be found in a pinch (I try to help, as I can).

# Oh, it's not a talent thing - I've seen some great stuff here at night.
And actually, I've a fairly flexible job so I can at least hit the 5pm UK rush over lunch. I just miss the general activity and sort of humour. US humour is different - not worse, just different.

# A good point, well made.
British humor is different, which is part of my attraction to this site (other than the graphic talent). I enjoy 'the other side of the coin', so to speak.

I think many British take a little more pride in grammar, and the jokes, et al, have a little more flavor. They're often more a turn of phrase than a 'jump in your face' type of joke.

It's all quite good. I take it in scoops and enjoy the ride.

# I certainly take pride in my grammar.
And if you listen carefully, I say 'cock orff'.

# Everything you post is effort.
which isn't crap.

B3ta is a community. There are elite people (pippy is one of my favorites, Eclectech another), we all contribute. It's part of the beauty. By posting, we learn to be better. Our peers teach us, and we grow.

It's just a good thing.

# LOL
Thanks for the ego boost :P

I'm sure I could improve my technique, but it doesn't help when I can't convey what I'm thinking anyway, technique or no... usually end up ditching things I'm working on cause nobody else gets it :P

My mac is auto-aliasing the browser display, I've autoaliased my image so it doesn't look too bad to me but shit to everyone else.

I think.

# Fonts on the board
are likely (usually) anti-aliased.

To make them match (since the board is in grayscale) try making your text image in greyscale. You'll get a lot more bang for your 256 colors and not have to suffer JPG artifacts.
