This is a question Driven to Madness

Captain Placid asks: What annoying things do significant others, workmates and other people in general do that drive you up the wall? Do you want to kill your other half over their obsessive fridge magnet collection? Driven to distraction over your manager's continued use of Comic Sans (The Font of Champions)? Tell us.

This doesn't exactly drive me to distraction, but it does make me ponder about how pathetic some people are
Fanboys obsessed with camera brand loyalty. I was once wandering about the zoo and spotted some guy in the distance who I assumed to have a rather large Canon white lens mounted on the camera around his neck. I genuinely didn't notice it clearly was a Nikon camera, and asked the guy what Canon lens it was in my naivety at the time, given I didn't recognise it. The guy seemed to get really angry, stating it was a Nikkor lens which swiftly became obvious, and stated his can sell with a "white hood," before storming off with a bad attitude. To this day, I like to think he heard my laughter behind him.

A lot of this bollocks goes on in the photographic community. I have no idea why; the rest of us pick up a tool and make a living

There are plenty of forums of technical subjects, but these fanboys are sone of the worst. They will focus on some tiny little aspect of why their brand's feature set is obviously better than the others.

Nikon and Canon fanboys are the worst offenders.

I mean come on, it's obvious Canon is better in every way!

Hahaha!
Though to be blunt, I would fucking love to work with some Leica glass; the LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/0.95 is jaw dropping.

Your laughter just drifted through Warwickshire...

A mate of mine said he was in the middle of some national park in North America
embracing the solitude with his camera etc, when completely by chance bumped into another human being walking the same trail, whose initial reaction was one of obvious disdain because of the camera strap around his neck. If my income was more lively, a Nikon product could well figure in my bag, except I hate their menus, hate what my fingers have to do using them, and have bought in to glass with Canon.

If I ever require medium format, i'll rent a Hassy

Plus I have two 1DX's, so am smug

Hey, buddy..
You're talking to someone who's only relatively recently moved to consumer level digital Canon.

Your pro gear tales are turning me green with envy.

Never mind Canon/Nikon debates. Pro/Amateur is where it's at!

Please someone, somewhere..buy my pictures!

When I pop it can one of you lot wipe out half the human race or something critical? Cheers

Leave it to me, Jahled.
Was on my to-do list anyhow...

P.S. Thanks for the link.
I will read this depressing publication.

Oh man, Leica fanboys are way worse.
Sure, they're a lot less common, but for their debatably-marginally-better-but-definitely-more-expensive glass, they have such an air of arrogant twattish smugness.

oh this^^^^
as a teenager I joined the local camera club hoping to learn something. I learnt that the Leica-worshippers were the Apple fanbois of their day, only much, much worse.

Why would you automatically assume it was a Canon lens?
What are you, some sort of pathetic fanboy?
(, Wed 10 Oct 2012, 5:06, closed)
Don't you know
that was a "Ziglewag Wonkadoodle x3000"
Man you Canon/Nikon bois really don't know your ass from your bumhole.

The better quality Canon lenses are painted white
So people can show off how much they've spent on them.

I once knew someone that longed to own a 'white Canon lens' without actually knowing what lens she wanted/needed or much about photography at all come to think of it!

Someone at work was asking me what camera to get.
I just said to read a lot of reviews as each set of fanbois will insist that you get exactly what they bought. He did a lot more research and is going with a Sony A65, rather than the Canon he was told he absolutely had to buy (at a higher price for a lower spec).

It gets on my tits
I've had Nikon equipment for years now, and will stick with it because;
a) I know how they work and am used to the controls/terminology
b) I have over £10k invested in glass for my D800, D7000, etc.

And yet some of my best pictures have been taken on a Panasonic TZ30 because I happened to have it on me at the right moment.

I currently shoot on Canon, as that's the body I learnt on and built up lenses for.
However, I understand Nikon tend to be slightly better in low light, which is dominant in my style, so when I have the sponds I intend to get a Nikon, and a similar set of lenses.

Thing is, photography technology is advancing so fast that increasingly the only advantage an SLR really has over a PNC is having no shutter lag.

Having said that, being the control freak I am, I like to do everything manually.

But yes - like you - it's a tool for getting a job done; not a sportball team or a family member, and such people that get upset about it need to be shot.
