This is a question My most gullible moment

Someone once told me that gullible wasn't in the dictionary and I went, "yeah yeah ha ha" but when they were gone that didn't stop me checking. What was YOUR most gullible moment? Zero points for buying an icon on b3ta.

I live in a crap hole in Virginia
although im originally from South Africa. My origin often brings about blank stares and questions like "what country in south africa are you from?" so i make use of this wonderful gift i have been given and take the piss any opportunity i get, including asking for no ice in my water, because im allergic to ice.

The first time I tried it i was at a bar, chatting up a fit waitress who asked me whether i have christmas in my country. I strung her some long story about how, because we are so far South the earth's rotation and orbit causes us to have 13 months in our years and so we dont get a chance to coincide christmas time with the US so we abandoned it entirely.

She looked at me and said, "oh that makes sense... thats why the chinese new year is at a different time to ours."

yes, sweety...so can i have a glass of water please?..no ice...

I experienced this when I lived in Oklahoma for a year.
Yes, there are ignorant people everywhere, but the ignorance of back-woods Americans is without rival or comparison. I remember a legendary bit from 'are you smarter than a 5th grader' (watched purely to gain a sense of superiority, of course), in which the question was 'Budapest is the capital of which European country?' The confused contestant said 'I thought Europe was a country!', before guessing 'France'. It's forgiveable not to know that Budapest is the capital of Hungary, but she really went all out for ignorance. 'Twas brilliant.

On Behalf of Americans Everywhere
Many of us are not actually brain-dead idiots. Then again, we elected a brain-dead idiot, so perhaps the odds are against me here....

But honestly, some of us are actually quite nice! And with intellect above that of your average bag of produce, too!

lol
I think I'd have gone with South Africa is so far south the rotation / orbit happens a bit quicker so you only get 11 months a year and always miss out on December.

When I backpacked around the USA one "merkin" introduced me to her friend who was very obnoxious teen type, almost like in Clueless.

Anyway it went "hey, come meet this guy from Britain!".
Meets me, I say hello.
the Reply "HE's not British, I KNOW British people. My Aunt is from Britain..." etc etc.

My response was "Err, okay, whatever luv" in my most cockney accent possible and went back to talking to the others. The fact I was carrying a British passport and had a union jack on my bag was no clue then.

Herbivorous
I came to the states to study here, primarily because the research is so good. there are some extremely smart and amazingly interesting people here, however your average Virginian voted for your president...twice. between the frat boys and sorostitutes there is enough dumb to actually spill into the surrounding states. I have been asked "oh you are from south africa? Do you know "generic african name"?" to which my usual reply is "yes, he is the poor sod who fetches the water from river for the entire village"
