This is a question Irrational Hatred

People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

Eating Loud
Noises people make when they eat irritate me a lot. I have to leave the room to avoid going off into a rage, the noise just really gets on my nerves. I only ever notice it though when a member of my family does it.

Same here
My aunt does it with absolutely everything she eats. Never had the will to just walk out of the room tho

Agreed
I have lost count of the times I have had to leave a room because of the grotesque noises that some people make when they eat. NEVER go to china, it was like torture being there!!

I saw a chinese fellow once eating a noodle soup in the slurpy, noisy chinese style while smoking a cigarette that never left his lips. I was suitably grossed out but also a little impressed.

Me too!
I have to leave the room or stick my fingers in my ears. I don't like hating the noises but it happens all the same! And same here too, it seems to be my family (mostly) who I can't stand listening too.

It's a weird thing.

It makes my eye twitch...
Logicaly I appreciate that it's only a noise and it doesn't really harm anyone but is it really that hard to eat with your mouth closed? Surely if they can eat soup without it falling out of their gaping maw then upscaling the same method to solid food itn't exactly rocket surgery? Right I'm off for a lie down.. Grrr.. ;-)

You're definitely not alone
It's called misophonia and can be fucking awful to live with (for everyone involved). I've become a *little* more tolerant of eating noises, mainly because I often eat with colleagues and customers for work and punching their teeth down their throat is frowned upon in polite society. Forcing myself not to react eventually lessened the irritation, but it sure as hell is still there.

I get that too. Normally it's fine if there's some background noise, but it's very difficult to be in a quiet room like an office, and listen to someone eat without wanting to leave. It's one reason why we tend to eat and watch something at the same time at home.
