The Binary choice was confusing enough for many.

Format Pitch: 'Come Fly With Me'
Well, it's sort of Little Britain in an airline, we based it on Airport, but we'd thought we'd add in some more lazily drawn charicatures and stereotypes.
Now, how much will you pay us?

I quite enjoy saying 'I hope they both die in a freak yachting accident'.

# There is a lot of ironic racism/bigotry about and it's hard to tell just how ironic it's meant to be
or how much of this so-called "irony" is just a thinly veiled disguise for actual racism/bigotry.

But that's probably thinking too much about the problem and not enough of not giving a toss and moving on to more fun stuff.

# I have mildly conflicting views about this
but I do think offence is caused by the person who's been offended. If you're not offended it's not offensive... so they're more to blame than the construct of tubular vibrations, tongue slaps and mouth contortions that make up language.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:35, archived)
# So what you are actually saying is that if someone is offended by the way they are treated or talked to
then it is their own fault for taking offense and nothing to do with the way they are being talked to?
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:38, archived)
# i may be being deliberately obtuse.. but pretty much.
I'll phrase it this way.

My friends take the piss out of me... I laugh along and find it funny

Someone else takes the piss out of me... I get upset and think the world is a terrible place filled with shits.

The words can be the same but it's how i'm interpreting it that's causing me upset.

(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:44, archived)
# The difference is that you know your friend is just taking the piss and is at the end of the day still YOUR friend.
Someone off the street talks to you like that who you've never seen before you have the perfect right to be upset.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:47, archived)
# yeah I agree that you have the right to be upset if you want to be
but equally it is possible to not give a shit and get on with your day.

I've always thought the world would be a nicer place if everyone took themselves less seriously.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:51, archived)
# HOW DARE YOU
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:56, archived)
# I know... I know.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 13:00, archived)
# Then we would have a world of trolls
where everybody would be complete shits to everybody and should anybody dare to get offended then that's the perfect excuse to step it up a notch a be even more mean and vindictive. The problem with society at the moment is the lack of basic respect for people and their individuality people do not want to be talked to like the way you are suggesting they want their day to go as smoothly as possible.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:58, archived)
# that's the opposite of what I think we'd get.
if you don't take offence trolling can't happen... a troll is trying to deliberately wind you up... don't get wound up and the troll has nothing to feed on.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 13:03, archived)
# So for example a bloke might have a bigger than average nose let's say
he goes to work and his work colleagues start with "Hey you big nosed bastard, how's thing?" - "Hey I'm fine and you know what I do have a bigger than average nose and I'm totally fine with you defining this as a main attribute to who I am!" and so his day go along.

Come on think about what you are saying - it's simplistic to think to nobody is ever going to be offended which would work out fine if you were "perfect" and nobody said anything insulting to you but us less than perfect people would be food for the trolls regardless of how we reacted.

Trolls happen whether we ignore them or not - they just become more embolden and seek further ways to annoy, that's why trolls who persist are banned from forums such as b3ta.

# Speaking as a ginger(hahahahaha), I've had a lot of shit thrown my way
I don't mind ginger jokes as long as they are funny... someone pointing out the obvious (big nose, skin colour, etc.) isn't offensive it's just tedious.

I think we have a fundamentally different opinion on human psychology. Life takes place inside our minds. What mood you are in will effect how you see the world outside. Life, to me, is all a matter of perspective... and I think I'm the one in control of that perspective so if my view of what is happening upsets me I think at some level I should take some of the blame for that.

I'm gonna stop there as I'm verging a bit to close to Charlie Sheen "I just blinked and cured my brain" territory.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 13:23, archived)
# I'd just finish by saying life doesn't exist solely in the mind it exists in our environment as well
it's a symbiotic/dynamic relationship between the two. We are as much a product of our environment as our environment is a product of us and what we think cannot be taken with the exclusion of our environment nor can we change our environment without fundmentally changing ourselves and the way we think too.

I too was born a "ginger" but I refused to be defined as such and therefore got the respect that I fought for - and that meant taking offense to non-gingers taking the piss.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 13:32, archived)
# I started taking the piss better than they could.
I could explain more thoroughly where my thought process comes from but it would require me to go on about being bi-polar which I cannot really be arsed with.

I'm going to take a guess and say that if you took a locust of control test you're result would come out as external. Where as I'm more of an internal.. hence this difference of opinion.

EDIT: as this a debate on an internet forum: "You know where people took offence? Nazi Germany that's where!"
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 13:38, archived)
# so to follow that
do you think a person who would normally be offended should just suck it up, or is it acceptable and just to take offence?

# You leave my fecking fence where it is

as long as they don't want to cause actual physical harm over something that is intangible and essentially imaginary.

# I thought I'd give series 2 (or possibly 3) of little Britain a go
One of the first sketches was a sad old man character who'd bought a Thai bride.
It was so gut-wrenchingly embarrassingly awful that I stopped watching and have never bothered since.
(, Mon 18 Apr 2011, 12:38, archived)
# Nothing to do with their sense of humour but more down to the fact they are just so fucking unfunny
which puts me off Little Britian altogether the only saving grace of the series is Tom Baker but I think he too is being exploited by 2 unfunny twats. Just my opinion and therefore as my opinion cannot be interpreted as being in anyway offensive* ;)
