Agencies are cunts. Back in my student days I was given a job for one day, 9-5. There was more work, so I stayed until 10:30pm, but couldn't work the next day (which was a Sunday anyway) due to prior engagement type things. People at the work place understood, and thanked me for putting in overtime. The agency fired me for not working the Sunday.

Don't bother trying to argue with jobsworths. You quit your job, your boss was ok about it, he'll get a replacement ok, you've got a new job and you've had the courtesy to let the agency know.
