# Je ne croix pas
in God. That's one of my probs. I don't want a Christian, Muslim, or Jewish president.

(Evidently John Kerry is at least 2 of the three)

# do atheists run for president in the US
? are they all professed believers in something or other?

# I don't think there's any way
a non-religious candidate could get elected in America. My take on this may be skewed (I'm an immigrant) but I truly don't think it could happen.

# I
agree... There are just too many people (esp in the bible belt where I'm from) who would sooner die than vote for someone who hadn't accepted Jesus Christ as thier personal Lord and savior. Unless they were Jewish, they'd be ok with that. But no Athiests. Ever.

# 80% of American's 'claim' to be christian
and our christian presidents get head in the oval office.

# Well,
Unlike organized religions, athiests don't all adhere to a single set of beliefs. So, it would be hard to get someone to run on an "athiest" platform.

# i'm not sure that they'd have to
after all, you the people aren't voting for religion(although against a religion is a totally different story), they're usually voting party, so if an athiest won the primarys for a party then got asked about his religion and he said he was 'unaffiliated', that wouldn't be able to affect his appeal to anyone but the ACTUAL bible thumping believers (say, 3% of the nation. they'd be forced tolook at his stance on certain issues as opposed to his religious beliefs. rereading that makes me think of things to contradict myself but i want to do some shopping so ill post it anyway. paintmash time
