To prevent any awkward and embarrassing killing of heroes!

Because reloading is demeaning and embarrassing!

but it will either not slow the hero down at all, certainly not enough to stop them having a full-on punch-up,

or

their partner absolutely definitely won't be hit, they will slide down the wall and insist that the main hero continues after the baddie, and that they'll be okay.

Of course, what they don't realise is that the building has begun to burn down, but fortunately the hero will deal with the baddie in time to come back and rescue them.
