Yes they are all that.Don't get a cheap one, get the best one you can afford. Then struggle for a week. Then spend the rest of your life wondering how you ever managed without one.

Defintely /\ this.I've got a Wacom A4 Intuos 3. It's the bee's leg joints, it really is. I still use my mouse for all the normal stuff, but drawing with it is a joy. Spend as much as you can, and Wacom's are worth the money IMO.
If you've got a friend in America then buy one there and get them to forward it - it'll cost half the price of buying one in the UK.
