I remember loading a game in my Spectrum ZX...
Would wait ten mins, be called for dinner, eat, return, wait for ten mins. The games always turned out to be crap but you felt obliged to play for an hour.

Our Spectrum got broken because we got frustrated and my old brother threw it against a wall.

C64 games didn't make any noise when you were loading them IIRC. Some Atari 800-XL games talked to you when they were loading because they used both sides of the tape at once if you know what I mean.
