This is a normal post Thanks,
And thanks again. Yes, I too am a wind turbine supporter, use no fuel, give no exhaust but give us power and look fantastic too. Supporter I am.

This is a normal post Actually
They draw power from the grid to get started, and the amount of energy that it takes to manufacture and install one is more than it generates in around 2-3 years.

They aren't quite what they are promoted to be really...

This is a normal post It's not a debate.
I'm involved with the manufacture of some of the components used in the gearboxes for various manufacturers of wind turbines and hence know quite a bit about how much "embedded energy" there is in a wind turbine.

and it's a lot.

This is a normal post Exitation current
every generator needs it.
Wind or cunt powered, makes no difference.

This is a normal post Depends
If the generator / alternator is of the permanent magnet type or has field windings.

.. and that's not what I'm referring to. Many models of wind turbine cannot "start" from stationary.. they draw power and act as a motor to get the blades moving. Only once they're up to a speed do they actually generate power.

Yes, wind turbines are a good thing in many ways, but to say that they have no emissions is totally and utterly wrong.
