This is a normal post Writing off a diverse and disparate group of 320 million people as thick is thick.

This is a normal post Individual Americans can be and are smart.
Americans as a group are dumb.

It is global, a person can be smart, people are dumb. It is not restricted to just Americans.

This is a normal post What if you replaced "Americans" with "Africans"?
Would that be acceptable?

This is a normal post That depends entirely on all the other ingredients.

This is a normal post And Africa is a continent
...I don't think anyone was calling into question the intelligence of people from Peru. Where, as we all know, they have talking bears.

This is a normal post Humans are thick
However, given their status, power and wealth, Americans have the ability to project their stupid on an international stage far more effectively than any other nation.

Also Africa seems to be aware of some of it's social issues and is trying to address them. Americans? Nah, they'll just vote in a champion of inequality and continue shooting each other.

This is a normal post Seeing as we're comparing Americans and Africans then
On your criteria of rulers they elect, social issues and violence to each other you're saying Africans are more enlightened than Americans?
(, Thu 13 Apr 2017, 14:48, , Reply)
This is a normal post Nope, I'm saying that Americans broadcast their stupid better than anyone else.

This is a normal post What that a bunch of seemingly liberal people have found a way to justify their racial prejudices?
You'll hate it at a local labour party meeting then.

Also don't you fucking dare press delete!

This is a normal post I'm fairly right wing, I'm just pro-Europe and very anti-US
I think Labour are currently a deluded bunch of unreconstructed hippies.

This is a normal post What sort of infrastructure did you create, rather than steal and make bigger?
Radio? Nope. Television? Nope. Computers? Nope. Networking? Nope. I'll give you DARPA/Internet, but again all the groundwork was there for you with the networking invention... just stolen and made bigger.

The US takes other people's ideas, makes them lowest common denominator to suit their populous and then advertises the crass shit to other idiots, which unfortunately saturate the earth.

Or indeed when they produce a good comedy, sort out any of their social issues or elect a good government.

This is a normal post I rather liked Arrested Development as it happens.
I got nothing on the social / governmental issues though.

I didn't catch that. I started watching the whole thing on Netflix again recently, so that's a disappointment.

Two unwatchable "comedies" and a cartoon that's gone one for 25 series too many. Okay?
(, Thu 13 Apr 2017, 16:56, , Reply)
This is a normal post I agree that Curb is very much an acquired taste,
but I think calling Frasier unwatchable is more than a little harsh. I'm quite sure that Friends would have been a little lowbrow and trite for your tastes, but its international success speaks volumes. I never really got Seinfeld, but many comedians speak very highly of it. Some of my friends rate the american version of The Office but I didn't see much of that.
