I don't know what it is about Reason but I've never been able to get on with it when using it as a sequencer. I occasionally use it to create the odd unusual sound though. As for Audacity and Recycle, I've heard of both of them but never used them, they any good?

You can do both of those.
Timestretching can be done by selecting a segment of a sample, going to 'audio' at the top and selecting 'stretch to...' or something similar. Took me a while to figure out but that's only cos I hadn't read the manual. It's a piece of piss once you have the knowhow! You can also map a piece directly to the time signature you're using, rather than stretching it and squishing it til it fits.
Also, a lot of people favour Logic over actual mastering software like Ozone or WaveLab...

But i use logic 5.5 on a PC, and the way it processes sound is much inferior to a dedicated audio suite... Apparently this has been dealt with on the Mac versions since.

Yeah
I have to say, as great as Logic is, it's not the easiest thing just to get onto and throw ideas down with.
I used to use Garageband when I just started out and, for all its faults and lack of versatility, there's no better DAW for just chucking ideas about and getting stuff out of your head.

I use it for recording...
mainly phone convos (not secret stuff) just so i can keep and work on a record of what was said.... it's awesome for ease of use...
you set a target and hit record... the quality is like a sony mini disk recorder...

Audacity's just a free audio editor, very good for freeware.
Recycle's brilliant for chopping stuff up ie amens etc.
Reason's pretty much all I can use on my puter, it doesn't like cubase and I don't like fruityloops. I still haven't worked out ableton either, though it seems pretty good. I'm used to reason though so all's good!

I will never figure Ableton out. I'd love to figure out how to do live sets with it but oddly I just find it impenetrable.
(Added to that, I don't think it's much of a thrill for an audience to see a guy stand at a laptop for two hours. At least DJing has a certain degree of 'performance' to it)

I more or less stick to CDs
Since I play a lot of my own stuff and I get a lot of mp3s off the net. But I can DJ vinyl as well, unlike many CDJs!
There's quite a lot of DnB DJs near me that cling to vinyl like it's a superior master race that we must all bow down to, and CDs are an evil hellbent on ruining the Reich of the LPs...
Or something like that.
