My son got a toy one of these for Christmas
about £30. Great indoors but crap out doors as it is not heavy enough to withstand the slightest breeze.

When you consider what it actually has to do
That's considerably cheaper than some other equipment that they would otherwise call on for the same role.
Bear in mind its not the toy helicopter you picked up in that gadget shop in the high street.
This one flies outdoors, is stable enough to act as a video platform, is capable of securely transmitting that video back to the operator, is most certainly controlled using a secure radio protocol not line-of-sight infra-red, and does all this in the same size package as that helicopter you picked up in the high street.
That capability doesn't come cheap in a large package. To shrink it to that level is really bloody hard.
