I was surprised to note that Danny Cannon, the director of the other attempt at doing it, sent in a film poster design to 2000AD as a kid, seeing it as a Blade Runner pastiche, with Ridley Scott directing and Harrison Ford as Dredd. But I'd still say that's probably too serious.

DannyCannon made a huge fuck up of the film. If you generally like action films his version is ok..fan of the comics like me...Fucking travesty

Although Brit-Cit stuff sort of interested me. For me the film was alright, but it wasn't brilliant, it kind of missed an interesting plot. Moreover I enough know to know that they really fucked with the comic's plotline and characters. Having said that though taking a source material to heart isn't a pre-requisite to making a great film, getting at least a good idea what to do is. And as I said the 95 one looked a bit aimless tbh.
*But I'm obsessed over Blade Runner and the Dan O'Bannon/Jean Giraud short "The Long Tomorrow" though. Big city noirish larks with very bright colours. Fucking brilliant.

the way it's usually drawn these days. I still get 2000 AD, you see. The helmet looks cool and the shoulder pad is pleasingly retro, like the very earliest Ezquerra drawings.

the comic costume would look ridicolous if it was done in real life, he needs the sleekness, cos HE IS THE LAW!

cos we've gradually stumbled in to living in it already.

but this one frame is already better than the whole of the previous film.
I want to see a Sin City-like 2000AD film... Judge Dredd would be a decent candidate for that, with Mickey Rourke as Judge Joe Dredd.

or did they drop the word 'Drokk"

Featuring Juristus Dreddicus? :)
I was a massive 2000AD fan... spent all my pocket-money on getting it delivered. Drokk is a great word.
I also would like to see a TV series of Tharg's/Alan Moore's Future Shocks.
