Snobbery goes both ways
I've *done* London, for my sins, and in hindsight stayed there about four years too long. I know how the North sees south of Watford, but I also know how the South sees north of Watford.
Hang on. Since when was Watford the fucking Schiffen Line?

"from Roman times" apparently
The Watford Gap is located at a minor gap between two slight hills in the county of Northamptonshire, England. Engineers from Roman times onwards have found it to be an appropriate route connecting the Midlands with the South East.
In a width of 400 metres (1,300 ft) the A5 road, the West Coast Main Line railway, the M1 motorway and a branch of the Grand Union Canal all traverse the gap in parallel.

Cool
I find this sort of geographical history fascinating. It reminds me of the Danelaw, which I always considered to be the traditional border between the southern poofs and the northern monkeys..

The Watford Gap is Checkpoint Charlie.
and yes, I admit to viewing anywhere north of Gloucestershire as the inspiration for the Mad Max movies.
Edit: and I think you'll find it's snobbery on our part, jealousy on yours.
