This is a link post "China ban on dog meat draw angry outcry" NSFW
The 'Al Jazeera' news agency report on a possible ban of dog and cat meat in China (in their typical non-judgementle way).
After a recent trip to China I had a conversation with a local guy that said "You westerners treat your pets like royalty,
but you put your old people on homes to die! This is food for us, and we look after our old people!"

I could see the point he was making, but I still didn't want to eat it.
*Please watch with an open mind, I've not posted this up to start a debate*
(I've put nsfw, as you do see a couple of dead dogs in the film, but nothing being slaughtered on camera)

This is a normal post He's got a point, I'm not too fussed what people eat.
I'm not bothered that some countries like to eat dogs, dolphins and turtles; i bet they taste awesome.

We eat pleanty of animals and it's arrogant of us to tell other countries what they can and can't eat. Personally I wouldn't eat a dog, though i'd definitely smash a dolphin.

But it's not arrogant to tell people to stop eating meat if it is endangered.

Eat all the dogs and cats you like, but not if you eat them out of existence.

Furthermore, in China, the debate isn't just about eating dogs and cats, but how they cook them and treat them pre-eating. I've seen dishes such as cat which has been boiled alive, and also seen dogs being treated terribly in kennels before being skinned alive.

Grim.

This is a normal post Dogs aren't generally skinned alive,
they are often hung up by their front legs and beaten to death with a stick though (the adrenaline released makes the meat tender).
Which is why I'm not going to eat dog meat again.

This is a normal post i don't see the difference between eating most animals
but dolphins are different, they're self aware and highly intelligent. It's like eating a toddler

This is a normal post No problems with anything people eat ...
Just as long as the animals are treated humanely and do not suffer.

It's a complicated issue, and most of the opinions you hear about it are self-evident bullshit. But the way they kill them is not good.

This is a normal post You make the point about pigs being much smarter than dogs,
and yet we happily munch on them in the West. But I think it's simpler than that: dogs are fluffy and nice looking. If dogs/cats did not have fur, I suspect their popularity would be diminished significantly.

This is a normal post I guess I'm saying it's not the intelligence factor that humans use to determine an animals edibility.
It's their lack of fluff.
