This is a question Redundant technology

Music on vinyl records, mobile phones the size of house bricks and pornography printed on paper. What hideously out of date stuff do you still use?

Thanks to boozehound for the suggestion

I still use Amigas
not just for playing old games, but I actually use them for developing application software, composing music, reading email, browsing the web. All that kind of stuff.

I still have my trusty A500 (with 1 meg upgrade!) set up
Sure, I have an xbox 360 plugged into my 42 inch HDTV, but sometimes I just NEED to play R-Type or Supercars 2!

Until recently
I had:

* Amiga 500
* Amiga 500+
* Amiga 600
* Amiga 1200 with 68060 and network card
* Amiga 1500 with 68030 with network card/gfx card/IO expander
* Amiga 4000 in tower with 68060/PowerPC upgrade, Voodoo 3 gfx card, Repulse soundcard, all kinds of bells and whistles
* AmigaOne XE/G4

But I either sold or gave away all but the AmigaOne and the A1500. I'm going to sell the 1500 as soon as i get it working again, since I only really use the AmigaOne these days.

I think we've talked before
I'm glad that people still use the Amiga, i've never felt the buzz with later games platforms that I had with the Amiga.

I had an A1200
complete with 64mb RAM, 68040, Voodoo 3 and all the gubbins in a tower case.

It was a really nice setup until I killed it by inserting the clocking crystal the wrong way round.

UAE all the way now.

You are my hero.
What do you use for music? I did try to have a play around with ProTracker a few months ago but didn't really get anywhere.

Well, on the oldskool 68k based Amigas
I used Protracker for a long time. I also used AHX, and created a "next generation" AHX called hivelytracker.

HivelyTracker was written for more modern PPC based Amigas, but it was backported by someone else to 68k, but you'll need a 68060 for it to be worth it.

Edit: Some of my Amiga things are listed here.

You were involved with Jurassic Pack?
I remember that one :) Will have to take a nosey at some of the old issues.

(A mate of mine was the editor of Deadlock diskmag)

I wasn't involved with it at the beginning
I coded a diskmag engine in 1999/2000 for a mag called "Devotion". The mag lasted 2 issues. The Jurassic Pack people liked my mag engine so used it from issue 8 onwards.

Nice!
I have a boxed, new, never used Amiga 1000 complete with its mouse and Kickstart 1.3 disk. One day, I'll unpack the thing and see if it actually powers up. I really regret selling my Amiga 3000T, though, now THAT was a workhorse. Loved software development on that.

Awesomeness
I had an Amiga 1200 towered up in the ICS custom AT Case. PPC&040 board. BVision hooked to it. The works really :)

I used to develop on the Amiga, did some sound bytes for a local radio station. Made some programs and games in AMOS. Gave Blitz Basic a good go too. Did Animations and stuff on DPaint.

Amiga was a fun system to develop on. I dont think ive done much on the PC. Theres just no spirit.
