This is a question Broken Promises

Thebigfella tugs our coat and says: Are you a LibDem minister, a cheating partner, or maybe you have an annoying friend you can't be bothered with? Tell us of promises you've broken, or if you've been on the receiving end.

More than 10 years ago, after years of marriage to the soap-obsessed ex, I promised myself that I'd never watch another soap again.
It felt good - I was soap-free at last!

That is, until the Great Tram Crash tonight.

I had to watch, even though I recognised only a few of the older characters, and was immediately drawn back in. Who is dead? Who has survived? Whose secrets will never be told, and whose revealed?

Damn you, Corrie. Damn you to HELL. *shakes fist*

My facebook news feed
has been full of this tonight
Makes a change from X factor I guess
Either way I'm clueless

Not clueless enough...
...you have a facebook news feed!!!

My sister worked on it
(she works at The Mill, a VFX studio who do a lot of BBC stuff)

My parents have recorded it. I refuse to watch it on principle.

Corrie is on ITV

Just saying like

Sometimes you just have to dip the toe back into it, so you know why you don't watch them any more.
I love the fact it is a tram, not train, crash. How dramatic!

It is one of my proudest boasts...
...that I have never seen Coronation Street.

Me too!
So that means we've made 50 years of not giving a flying fuck about it. Woot!

Not counting that bit in Red Dwarf, of course

Screw you, Grandad!
I'm only 37.

I'm not 50 either
But I like to think I was actively ignoring this utter tot even before I was born. Nay, conceived.

If you can't sum up the story (NOT the situation) in a single sentence, then it isn't real drama.

So many shows start off with a series that has a point, then, when that's a success, just go on with the "further adventures" of the characters. A couple of examples off the top of my head, that I got suckered into watching because a) my wife liked them, and b) the first series had some actual point to it: Desperate Housewives (OK, at least it has gags, but it's still a soap these days); Cutting It.

Couldn't
Give a filthy piece of distended rectum for any soap operas or pointless reality/talent shows. So thats me with bugger all to watch on tv then. Literally the ONLY thing i have been watching out of a weeks schedule is the Walking Dead on FX. If it wasn't for the kids i would get rid of the telly and subsequently the bloody license fee

Quite now while you still have a chance
I didn't watch any soaps until I got together with my boyfriend and now I have a seven year strong addiction to Corrie because of him. I went cold turkey on Eastenders and it's only because it ended that I am not watching Crossroads.

All the same, I really enjoyed the tram crash.

I can give up any time I want
I just LIKE watching Corrie now and then. I don't do it all the time. Some people can't stop but I can. Wouldn't really call myself a Corrie-watcher. It's not as if I stay in to watch it and miss other stuff that's going on.

Can't be doing with any of them
Corrie
If it's so funny, put some jokes in and call it a sitcom. And get Shobna Gulati to do some sex scenes. Then I might watch.
'Stenders
Please stop with the gangland/everyone shagging everyone else's missus storylines. And stop shouting. And stop hiring Sylvia Young muppets who can't act for toffee. In fact, just stop. Which goes for all the others, too.

Corrie IS funny
it can be subtle though. In the scene immediately after the tram crash, with buildings on fire and the main characters standing there stunned, bystanders are shown holding up phones to photograph and video it. That made me laugh out loud.

I only bother watching for stuff like that
Can't be bothered with all the x is married to y who is having an affair with q who actually turns out to be the mother of x etc etc that happens in between.
(, Wed 8 Dec 2010, 0:31, closed)
Yup
I've never followed Emmerdale but I did catch it during the week of the plane crash, years ago. Marvelous.
