could we at least have it back for the offtopic board and past qotws?
(, Thu 16 Apr 2009, 21:24, Reply)
to get some kind of response about this. We've been banging on about it for over a year now.
(, Fri 17 Apr 2009, 6:07, Reply)
of actually gazzing rob or cr3 or robtoo about it?
I think this place is just a backwater unfrequented by the likes of them.
(, Fri 17 Apr 2009, 13:13, Reply)
Rob didn't give a shit. I've sent off messages to robtoo and cr3. I'll let you know if they respond.
EDIT: cr3 tells me that it was disabled because it's very CPU intensive. I asked if he could come up with a substitute and he said he might, but that he wasn't feeling too fluffeh toward the QOTW crowd because someone in there keeps bashing him.
So: whoever is badmouthing cr3 (*coughBERTcough*), knock it the fuck off, willya? The guy seems pleasant enough to me.

"man the fuck up" to cr3. If one person bashes you, ignore them. It's childish and unfair to punish everyone because you hold a grudge against one person.

So when I'm searching around for my username for things that have gone wrong, and all I ever see is people badmouthing me on QOTW, it does NOT exactly inspire me to jump in to it and pander to their requests.
If I was salaried this would be different, but as it is, I'm not. And I have very little love for a community that I've never really participated in which only comes out with negative things. I put a lot of time in to this site and could do without it.

If you want a favour done, telling me to "man the fuck up" is a fucking stupid way of doing it.
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 12:55, Reply)
perhaps two or three times over the last year, never got any reply from rob, cr3 or robtoo. I guess I'm just not important enough to warrant a response.
(, Sat 18 Apr 2009, 8:19, Reply)
As that'll get a response. With gaz, we don't know who's replied.
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 12:55, Reply)
Essentially replicating the "best" feature which is the default view for old QOTW posts.
Am I missing something here that "best" wasn't doing? I can't have it spew out all of the answers, before you ask. Too CPU intensive and was never designed to be public.
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 13:03, Reply)
Best does its thing at the end of a question... /all did it at any time. One request - please could it be linked from the 'Pages:' cell as 'Popular', like in image challenges, if it doesn't load the server too much?
I think the main reason you might get negativity from QOTW is because many of our requests go unanswered. I, for one, appreciate that this is a hobby for you and you're not paid, and I hope I speak for everyone who's used /all before when I say thanks for taking the time to amend the code.
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 18:00, Reply)
Naw, I won't add a link for now. I'll see if it's stable and such before doing that.
I might go add a search link to the links board, though.

We really *do* appreciate the work you put in cr3, but hopefully you can see how frustrating it gets when QOTW board members make all the right noises (for over a year) but get absoutely no action --or even a response-- from any of the various mods who were contacted independently by several of us.
The majority of those asking for this feature have donated to the site too, ignoring us (by accident or otherwise) just makes us feel marginalised.
QOTW: a lonely frontier town, populated by fluffy people.

Thanks for bringing it back, even though it wasn't meant to be that widely known before for server reasons. As No3l said, it means we can check what's doing well before the question is closed.

This is a great feature, cuts out a lot of crappy posts (which I sometimes write myself) and means I'll be reading more of qotw than usual.
Love it!
Ta.

As you already know, volunteering to do things gets you silent thanks from the majority and non-silent hassle from a few. Such is life.
I didn't know about this feature before, and now I can see the best off topic posts without having to wade through 119 pages of the stuff. That's the rest of my evening sorted at least.

sorry you've been getting bad-mouthed!
some people out there need to realise that you, Rob et al. aren't getting paid for this, neither are you doing it out of the goodness of your heart.
Sometimes I wouldn't be surprised if you told us all to fuck off...
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 20:46, Reply)
It's appreciated.
Most of us appreciate that moderating can be an utterly thankless task. Most of us who contribute do so in our own time out of affection for the site too, so it's good to see something given back.

Thank you kindly cr3 sir.
I wasn't aware of any cr3 bashing, but I can kind of understand why you let us 'stew in our own juice' now. On behalf of fellow QotWers, I apologise.
I'm also sorry to hear that you don't visit QotW much and that it doesn't 'pump your nads'.
Give it a go again if you get the chance...you might be pleasantly surprised.
I'm almost a little bit disappointed...what have I got to whinge and bitch about now?
*thinks*
Oooh hang on a sec...WHERE'S THE FUCKING 'SEARCH' FEATURE GONE??
EH?...EH??? Pull your finger out man!
*Starts protest*
Woo!
Just kidding.
Thanks again.

I, for one, really appreciate this.
Now who the fuck is bad-mouthing you on QOTW?
Remember my Mad Afghanis who used to do jobs for me in London? - I've still got their numbers and can send them round to whoever is giving you grief. A swift knife up the Khyber Pass should sort them out.
Cheers

Thanks for doing this, I love the idea of it.
Now, for us dim people accessing the site on crappy mobiles, what's the new url to take advantage of this please?
(, Tue 21 Apr 2009, 12:10, Reply)
to the URL of the page, i.e. www.b3ta.com/questions/bugs_and_feature_requests/all
