Druids.
Someone once told me in deadly seriousness that Stonehenge was built in the 1960s using JCBs. This still remains my favourite conspiracy theory by far, being such a joyous combination of preposterousness, whimsy, and blatant evidence to the contrary.

Not too far from the truth
In 1958 the stones were restored again, when three of the standing sarsens were re-erected and set in concrete bases. The last restoration was carried out in 1963 after stone 23 of the Sarsen Circle fell over. It was again re-erected, and the opportunity was taken to concrete three more stones.

I like that the Wiccans claim to have an ancient religion.
In it's modern form, it was founded by Gerald Gardner in the 60s.

In it's old form, it was founded by George Watson MacGregor Reid. At the turn of the 20th century.

Spiritualism and Mormonism are older religions. Even Scientology pre-dates Gardnerian Witchcraft.

I think that's where they'd got it from - perhaps confusing "restored" with "built from scratch". I love the restoration purely for the very respectable gentleman who comes on in his glasses and three-piece suit to say, in marvellously precise c.1958 BBC English, "now these we're going to be putting back, and that's all fine. But those three stones we know to have been knocked over by the Romans, so we won't be putting those up as it's a valid piece of ancient history."

My dad has a photo of him as a child at Stonehange, taken around 1949

I read that the Victorians restored a lot of it.
