This is a question Eccentrics

We all know someone who's a little bit strange - Mum's UFO abduction secret, or the mad Uncle who isn't allowed within 400 yards of Noel Edmonds.

Tell us about your family eccentrics, or just those you've met but don't think you're related to.

I shant allow it.
I think part of my brain wants me to be eccentric. There's another part that doesn't let it be so. I find my mind locked in a constant battle with itself.

I've articulated this very sentiment in a previous post, so I'll indulge my often overwhelming laziness and simply paste it in here:

When in meetings. Proper, serious work meetings; I'm petrified of what I may do.

If asked a question I worry I might respond not with a coherent, sensible answer, but instead just mutter "minge" in the voice of Brian from Spaced.

Each time I take a drink of water I shiver at the prospect that I might gather a mouthful in my cheeks, then casually lean my head back and create a human fountain.

Worst of all, I dread that the person next to me will say something stupid and I'll unwittingly cuff them about the ear.

Chances are this isn't uncommon, and that the eccentrics among us are those who've given up the fight and just let their brains get on whatever it is they want to do. I'm sure I'll doubtless give up the fight myself eventually. Perhaps things will be more fun that way.

Sounds like Tourettes...
apparently one of the symptoms is the urge to do what's socially unacceptable in any given situation.

If I were you I'd embrace it, self diagnose and start telling everyone what you REALLY think of them...

I suffer the exact same thing!
It even goes to the extent that when at work and you go for a widdle, you suddenly imagine yourself standing by your desk doing it in front of everyone then get paranoid incase you actually are (thankfully hasn't happened!!!).
Or when you're walking through with the tea round and everyone looks up and you think -my god did I just say something or is my knob hanging out? When actually they just want tea!
Worst was my ex, I used to call her a pet name as whenever I went to say her name I always had my previous ex's name on the tip of my tongue (let that one slip once and vowed never again!)...

Yes
The more inappropriate the idea/situation the funnier things seem to me... I have an idea. I start giggling. Someone asks me what is funny. I tell them I can't say. I say. They are disgusted. And repeat.

I imagine myself being in some sort of slapstick comedy show - I often find myself wanting to scream at people I don't know, particularly old ladies, just to make them jump etc...

Yep.
Only ever in meetings, I'm very well behaved and under control generally, but I think there's something about the twiddling-your-thumbs, desperately-trying-to-stay-awake state of mind you get into in meetings that erodes your inhibitions.

I've never acted on any of it but could well believe I might, so it worries me too.

Same...
I always have a very odd urge to hang up everyone's phone calls in the office, just to amuse myself.

Still never done it, worried about what would happen!

acting on instinct might be terribly amusing
but be prepared to have the living shit kicked out of you by way of occupational hazard.

A kindly word of advice :)

Daily Battle
I have these ^^

Sometimes I do give in though, and I was right to! I finally got rid of the loathsome spoilt kid from the pub that way (previous postings!)
Sometimes you should give in to your impulses, perhaps you have to practise it to know which ones?
