This is a question Getting Old

Drimble asks: When was it last brought home to you just how old you're getting? We last asked this in 2004, and you're eight years older now. Eight. Years.

New bike blues
I bought a new bicycle for the first time in twenty years. Things have changed a little.

"Ooh, 21 gears - that's a lot - 18 more than my last bike."
"That's the lowest number we carry in stock sir."
"Where are the mudguards?"
"You have to buy those separately."
"And the pump?"
"You have to buy that separately too."

I decided not to ask for a pair of bike clips. I felt like Mel Smith, trying to "buy a gramophone".

You can still get 3-speeds
and mud guards and such, usually on Pashleys these days which cost the earth.
