I like to pretend that I've wonthe Nobel prize and make up a pious little speech about how I was only one very small part of something much bigger than myself and the credit should go to my tireless graduate students etc...
I'd put money on the possibility that my boss does the same thing. The only difference being it's not a huge stretch to think that he might need his speech in 20 years, I on the other hand, will not.
