This is a question Bizarre habits

Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us: "Until I pointed it out, my other half use to hang out the washing making sure that both pegs were the same colour. Now she goes out of her way to make sure they never match." Tell us about bizarre rituals, habits and OCD-like behaviour.

My mum...
My mother who I love dearly has a few strange superstitions/habits such as:
1. Touching the wooden porch every time she leaves the house for good luck, and any other piece of wood she can find when a 'touch wood' situation arises.
2. Refusing to pass on the stairs as this is bad luck. Despite having bad knees she will insist on either going back down/up the stairs. I guess this WOULD be bad luck if you were to collide and fall down the stairs, but she does it on quite wide stairs too.
3. Throwing salt over her left shoulder 'into the devil's eyes' when it has been accidentally spilled.
4. She also knows lots of proverbs, has a touch of the amateur dramatics about her and comes out with many archaic superstitious notions which have greatly puzzled friends and boyfriends alike in the past. Perhaps she is a witch?

Is she a Catholic?
Some of those habits sound a bit Catholic to me.

Wouldn't it be better to just leave the salt where it is
rather than go out of your way to deliberately aggravate Beelzebub in such a petty, pointless, and entirely-unprovoked manner?

I mean, if you happen to break any one of the eight billion silly little rules, of which the failure to observe will see you cast into the Pit, the last thing you want to see is the Lord of Flies approaching you with a pissed-off look, a few red-hot skewers, and a burning desire to find out why you randomly chucked salt into his eyes.

I know I know
It baffles me too. I just sweep the salt up as it's just going to spread it around more throwing it over your shoulder. Oh dear now I've made it sound like this happens regularly. And as for the Catholicism - It would make sense but unfortunately she's probably more of a 'pagan'. Probably more of a crazy.
