I once bought a lovely shiny new top of the range Sony minidisc player.
I had only popped into town for a pasty.

This was about 2 months before the first mp3 players hit the shelves.

the first generation mp3 players
were almost universally terrible sounding. MD was by far the better choice for some time.

I think I made three or four discs before I got an ipod. It's in a drawer somewhere, probably in mint condition. In retrospect, I feel a bit of a nobber now...
