(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 22:15, Reply)
^ This.
Football is only important if there is something riding on the game. Apart from that, it's an excuse to be in the pub by midday with friends.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 22:16, Reply)
If we win I will milk it for all it's worth.
If we lose me and my mates will laugh at how shit football is and then go and play the Coat and Badge drug game.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 22:19, Reply)
How does that game work?

(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 22:21, Reply)
There's a pub in Putney called the Coat and Badge.
As you can imagine Putney/Fulham is full of proper toffs and hooray Henry's. The C&B is full of them. On match days Fulham fans stick out like sore thumbs despite being the majority of people, although not in the Coat and Badge. It's still major toff territory. They hate football people going in so we go in to annoy them. The Coat and Badge drug game involves doing drugs as openly as possible whilst shouting 'I LOVE FOOTBALL AND DRUGS'. It gets really competitive and I'm not sure how we've never been kicked out.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 22:28, Reply)
A slight variation on the Dick and Dom game 'Bogies' then.

(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 22:29, Reply)
The current champion did it off the top of the tele in the then packed beer garden.
It's about twelve foot in the air. He had to climb on top of the big barbecue thing to get up there. I've never laughed more than when that game is being played.

Don't blame you.
If it's do-able, you should go.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 23:38, Reply)
I'd rather go when there's no football on to be fair.
Me and my housemates were going to go to Krakow this summer for five days but the football thing put us right off. We're gonna go next Easter now.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 23:42, Reply)
The face we've won 5 European cups speaks for itself, really.
The trophy that United lifted in 1999 resides at Anfield!

Yes, we have things that have happened with 'fans'* that are a horrible part of our past, but there comes a time to move on from that.

*I don't count anyone who goes to a game looking for a fight as an actual fan, they're just scum.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 23:56, Reply)
I'd rather kill myself than support Liverpool.
Unlike Liverpool fans who just resort to killing others.
(, Tue 19 Jun 2012, 23:57, Reply)
Congratulations, you're as classless as the scum United fans.

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:02, Reply)
I'm very classy actually.
What do you think happened at Heysel then?
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:03, Reply)
Wankers that claim to be 'fans' of the club charged 'fans' from another club
Due to the fact that the stadium had fallen into disrepair, a wall fell, leading to the loss of 39 peoples lives. It's a fucking horrible thing to have happened, and I don't dispute that, nor do I dispute that the people representing Liverpool were to blame.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:08, Reply)
They only knocked bits of the wall down so they could nick it and sell it for driveway material.

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:10, Reply)
You've gotta be honest though, Liverpool supporters have hardly covered themselves in glory.

Al gave him a slightly distorted explanation yesterday.
I think he should be satisfied with that.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:10, Reply)
That's okay then.
As long as he has some sort of explanation.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:12, Reply)
The general gist was there, but it lacked the subtlety of the original Viz entry, I felt.

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:13, Reply)
So it was all about you having a BBQ.
I can see where this might have gone wrong. I'm concerned you pointed him in my direction.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:18, Reply)
Nah, I was posting on my phone on my way home.
It would have taken too long to explain so I suggested he asked you as you were familiar with the tale anyway.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:21, Reply)
This is true.

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:08, Reply)
That aside.
You've got to admire their achievements.

I won't be surprised if - by the end of next season - Andy Carroll looks like a bargain.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:10, Reply)
Here's hoping!
I've heard something which said that the main reason his form was poor for so long was due to the ankle injury he had never really subsiding, and that he'd never been shown how to run properly to avoid injury. I'd mock that report, but I know that I only broke my foot because of the way I was running.

As a result, his injury finally started to clear up around Christmas time, his performances improved, and when he regained confidence, well, look at how he played against Chelsea.

Could be bollocks for all I know, but it does make a certain amount of sense.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:13, Reply)
That and the weight of expectation draped around is £35million shoulders, I should imagine.
you can't blame Liverpool for taking such a massive punt on him, I guess, in the first half of that season he was phenomenal for Newcastle. I am still to be convinced that he actually wanted to leave, though.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:15, Reply)
He's made it fairly clear he wanted to stay at Newcastle, I think
The weight of expectation can't have helped at all, either.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:17, Reply)
Good bit of business on Ashley's part.
I think even Pardew would acknowledge that now, although he wasn't happy at the time.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:18, Reply)
Supposedly, they originally wanted the £50 million we'd got for Torres, but that got argued down to £35 million
Either way, still a fucking huge amount of money
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:19, Reply)
Oh, indeed.
What I'd do with £35million...
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:21, Reply)
Buy two strikers for less than that who've been banging in the goals?

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:22, Reply)
I was thinking more like
buying a mansion and renting rooms out to b3tans. A different bash every night.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:24, Reply)
To be fair to Carroll, he hadn't been doing too badly the season we bought him, 11 goals from 19 games isn't too shabby

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:27, Reply)
But the season before, he was no match for Nicky Maynard.

(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:28, Reply)
Maynard played 3 extra games, scored 2 extra goals
Not exactly a huge difference...
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:30, Reply)
And Liverpool are rich with strikers who can score 2 in 3........

Offended by everything, ashamed of nothing.
It makes me laugh how they bleat on about justice for the 96 (which I firmly agree with, there has to be answers) yet I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen Scousers jib into Craven Cottage without tickets. It's hilarious how un self aware they are.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:10, Reply)
Apparently, when Bristol City were in the first division back in the 1970s
They tried a similar trick.

It wasn't a success.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:11, Reply)
Don't get me wrong, I don't care and I've done it a fair few times myself.
But my club hasn't suffered the tragedy they have due to overcrowding in a stadium and I'm not demanding justice for those that lost their lives in that awful incident.
(, Wed 20 Jun 2012, 0:17, Reply)
To be fair, Jeff's team hasn't suffered from overcrowding in a stadium much lately.
