It was actually pretty good.
There was a good range of sub-plots, good characterisation etc. that blurb does make it seem pretty contrived but how he got the ability to do what he does is only mentioned off-handedly a couple of times in comparison to how often they mention it being a worrying compulsion.

There are so many shows these days with some "genius" at the centre, you takes the vaguest of clues and works out a complicated crime
