I'd say Tuneyards, ghostpoet, Louis Barrabas and the Bedlam 6, King Porter Stomp.

In things not music it was Robin Ince reading section of this book www.amazon.co.uk/Crabs-Rampage-Guy-N-Smith/dp/0450052516 while Pictish trail improvised jazz over the top

Mainly the mid-period stuff.
Quality started tapering off after The Boatman's Call.
(, Tue 21 Aug 2012, 21:57, Reply)
Nah, I love Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus.
DIg, Lazarus, Dig is alright.
And I quite enjoyed the first Grinderman LP.
(, Tue 21 Aug 2012, 22:01, Reply)
Abbatoir Blues never grabbed me.
That run from Henry's Dream through to The Boatman's Call is spectacular.
(, Tue 21 Aug 2012, 22:02, Reply)
I think we can agree that Boatman's Call is a definite high point.
Although it still hasn't put me off PJ Harvey - she can break my heart any day.
(, Tue 21 Aug 2012, 22:06, Reply)
I always forget just how good Let Love In is

(, Tue 21 Aug 2012, 22:07, Reply)
Staying with 4AD, I am now listening to Pale Saints.
