Memories of Saturday night
As others have already mentioned, Saturday was a top night. My memory is already hazy of some bits though, owing to the monumentally fuckttard decision to start drinking on a stomach containing 1.5 National Express sarnies. RWH's photos have brought some back though.

Abiding memories:

Meeting Rakky outside King's Cross after a couple of misunderstandings (bloody time delay on text messages adding to the confusion).

Actually finding the fucking pub!

Pooflake's impromptu performance outside being terminated by the staff because they had neighbours to consider (it was about 9:30, and he was making up a b3ta song with an acoustic guitar ffs - hardly 'Monsters of Rock').

Tourette's getting her arse out.

Tourette's getting her norks out against Captain Placid's windscreen, much to his and Pooflake's obvious delight.

Wookiee literally felling Rakky with a well timed one liner about ejaculate that had her on the ground laughing.

Catching up with some familiar faces, and getting to know some new ones.

Trooping off to the nearest kebab shop after the hunger/beer headache started to kick in.

The rest's a bit of a blur...

Ach!
I'm having to imagine all this with the aid of RWH's photos, cos I wasn't there.

I'm remembering thinking
you bastard, you look like a Jenson Button-esque wee slip of a handsome lad at 25 and then finding out you're around my age, thereby making me look bad :-)

memoires de la nuit Samedi pour moi....

Captain placid is a diamond geezer
Ancrenne is an amazing cross between a petrolhead and a vegitarian (only known one in existence to my knowledge)
I was lucky to establish (without being told) that Grandmaster Fluffles was a Cellist (she looked the type) and that Madame Marlboro was in fact a model and photographer, not just a photographer,
Surprisingly, nothing got nicked as there were handbags a-plenty strewn about the place
You're all Ace :-)
and when I published the link to the photos on the other boards (I do most of the boards), there was much comment on how the QOTW board members were an attractive-looking bunch. (there was also lots of 'why would we want to see them?' amongst the ignoranti (the opposite of intelligentsia) but fuck it, I am a multi-board b3ta user and I expect I'm not the only one. The fact I had 6,000+ hits on my Flickr account proves that people do want to look at us :-)

Oh, and it's quite a surprise when you make a mental construct of who someone is and how you think they are and then meet them and find out you're only gettijng 5% of the whole picture and they are greater than the sum of their parts (in Tourette's case, the mainly visible ones) :-) )

I think about eight of those I could handle
*jealouses* you social bastards you.

I'll be there for the next proper one within sixty miles hitch-hiking distance.

I've been lurking for months, only recently appreciated actually posting on Off Topic.

I remember Tourette's
opening the toilet mid piss brandishing a sanitary pad to excitedly proclaim;

"Look! It's got wings!"

You are all lully

Mammaries of Saturday night
Sorry Tourettes - even though I didn't witness your novel windscreen high jinks I couldn't resist ;-)

What can I say, as for highlights there were many - The Captain's rendition of "Special Olympics" which had me in fits, RWH's etch a sketch, Acrenne's emergency cider, Tourettes proving to be just as funny in person as she is here, Empress Bob being hilariously funny, Rakky being an absolute gem and Grandmasterfluffles showing off her biceps.

Pooflake, DiT, DG, Mistaspakkaman, Al, WGW, BGB, Axai, Ms Axai, Herr Doktor and Kaol all had me in absolute stitches at various points in the evening.

I'm sure I've missed some of you fine folks out, but thanks guys, I'm not exaggerating when I say I hadn't laughed as much in months - especially considering I had an emotional evening at my bro's leaving do after the bash.

I missed norks :(

I'd forgotten about Tourette's wee-incident!

DG
You are a very lucky man. Tourette's is an absolutely ace lady creature.

*notes that you are deserving of such*
(, Tue 26 Aug 2008, 20:41, Reply)
Aww,
thanks MM.

I just had a look at the thread on /talk where Mr Hat posted his flickr linky.

Dear God, do some of those people have a superiority complex or what?

I'd rather read something interesting, witty and made up than some badly-constructed one line insults any day of the week (I'm lookingat you Pooflake).

My outstanding memory of the evening....
Thinking as I walked back to the hotel how lucky I was to have found a great bunch of people.

And who fucking cares about what /talk think.

*puts hand up*

not me : )

@ BGB
the thing is, I've met folks from all of the boards and in real life the ones who turn up are very sociable. It's the ones who post 'SHUT THE FUCK UP I WILL KILL YOU' who don't turn up to social affairs, mainly because they are probably worried (and I have said to a couple of them myself, let us hope we do not meet in real life) they should be properly worried about the consequences of their postings.

Hey hey, ms Blouse :-)
(, Tue 26 Aug 2008, 21:11, Reply)
'tis true sadly
Some of the /talk folk are a little tongue in cheek with their humour, but one or two others seem to exist only to be plain nasty to folk - I'm thinking of the individuals here who pounce on everything rachelswipe posts. I'd diagnose an obvious personality disorder there.

Anyway, thanks RWH for putting up the pics and bringing the etch a sketch.

Agrees with PJM
What the hell, we had a good night. That's all that really matters to me.

As for the regular comments that QOTW is mostly made up... personally about 98% of what I post is absolutely true. The rest is bollocks. I leave you to decide which is which.

'Cause, like, I'd completely make up a story about seeing my mum's dead body and the prelude to that. Of course. Love me love me love me.

Now's the cue to start pandering folks, because I have a fragile ego and regularly need it stroked...

*Irony*

@Davros
I'll stroke your ego. It's in your pants right?
(, Tue 26 Aug 2008, 21:32, Reply)
I can honestly state
that the stories of myself that I've posted are factual, with very little distortion- other than, perhaps, downplaying them a bit as some of the incidents were actually far more grotesque than what I've described. But if I told all of the story, no one would believe me...

Ah well, when next I'm over there I'll tell tales to whoever I happen to get together with.

@PJM
(who, by the way takes the Handsome scale of QOTW boarders up on average, makes the rest of us blokes look good by association-)

ANYWAY

there may be elements of 'I'm unhappy so I'm going to try and bring everyone else down to my level' but I still get the impression that folks think they are being Clever or Witty by trying like hell to bring someone else down.

The great thing is when they accuse you of Fail though, for I have many examples of how we are NOT fail and you can rebuff them with a force that takes them all the way to fucking Jupiter :-)

@BGB
How'd you guess..?

Mr Hat, it was a pleasure to meet you t'other night. And the photos are excellent :-)
(, Tue 26 Aug 2008, 21:48, Reply)
Thanks Mr Hat
I'm sure that others might disagree on that, but it's nice to hear all the same!

Some of the talk folk can switch mindsets and post some witty stuff on there and QOTW. I'm all for that, nice to see you know how to handle the occasional world class butnugget.

Did anyone scoop an award for "Best CDC"?

Good evening darling people
*saunters in with can of Hobgoblin*

(I earned it - I've been laying laminate flooring in the loft with my bare hands - none of those wussy tooly things to GET IT IN THE GROOVES for the likes of me.)

My pleasure glands are spilling over with fond memories/mammories (good dig there PJM) of a splendid evening with smashing folk. Thank you all and especially thank you lovely ancrenne for organising it.
(, Tue 26 Aug 2008, 22:28, Reply)
DG, thanks and I hope to chat with you more next time
PJM, I am fortunate in that when someone says 'Loser' or 'Fail', they can't really back it up when I say 'I work at A', 'I have a daughter who loves me', 'I play X instruments' and 'I can possibly image manipulate better than you'. Oh, and 'XYZYYZABCDEFG' people have met me and find me pleasant to get on with

I am usually better at one of those aspects than their sorry bitter arses :-)

EDIT Hi Tourettes, I wish I hadn't have misse dyour nekkid exposures but in my mind it was always hot anyway :-)
(, Tue 26 Aug 2008, 22:32, Reply)
I haven't any one particular memory...
But I do know that I had a brilliant night!

What a bunch of stand up people. As always, great to see the people I've met again, and a real pleasure to add more faces to names!

I actually hurt from laughing on Sunday. Or maybe that was a hangover, who knows?

EDIT: I suspect I drew that CDC, al...

Davros's grandad's deadpan one liners
DIT's regular collapses into laughter
