42 People who seem to think that only children play computer games.

43 Overzealous spam-filters.

44 The new layout of the BBC news website.

45 The word 'innit' and anyone who uses it.

Rest assured my cuddly QOTW'ers, the peeves question will come to an end today.

41 People who don't take climate change seriously.

41a. people who think extreme weather is because of global warming, when infact most are just 'one off' events - like last years flooding in the UK. which was not related to global warming.

Re 41a.

Extreme weather is in itself not caused by global warming, but the frequency of its occurrence and its severity is related to the global temperature.

For example, hurricanes can't form unless the sea over which they start has a surface temperature of at least 28°C (I think that's the correct figure). Global warming means that a given area of ocean will, on average, be at or above that temperature for a longer part of the year, so resulting in (again on average) more hurricanes per year.

Similarly, because there is more energy available to them, they are likely to be stronger.

Individual weather events of course display a wide variation in severity, and will continue to do so regardless of global temperature.
