This is a question Racist grandparents

It Came From Planet Aylia says: "My husband's mad Auntie Joan accused the man seven doors down of stealing her milk as he was the first black neighbour she had. She doesn't even get her milk delivered." Tell us about casual racism from oldies.

Thanks to Brayn Dedd who suggested this too

The author, or the terminally boring dullard?

(, Thu 3 Nov 2011, 12:28, closed)
The author
it was an editorial meeting for a new sci-fi magazineexcuse to spend the afternoon in the pub

Oo get you Mr I Hang Out With The Literary Crowd!
Did you eschew the delights of elucidating the vernacular?

I've only read one of his books - A Song Of Stone, as my (sirrius) writing was compared with it. I quite enjoyed it.
(, Thu 3 Nov 2011, 12:34, closed)
You should read his others
because Song of Stone isn't his best by a loooong way

Non-sci-fi: Wasp Factory
Sci-fi: Use of Weapons

IMHO

I don't think I've read that one, I must search it out
Mainly we swapped stories of making explosives as teenagers :)

I shouldn't bother, if I were you.
I really isn't very good.
(, Thu 3 Nov 2011, 13:52, closed)
I hate to agree
But I also found song of stone to be a pretty low point in his writing.
As ever it's nicely structured and to some extent it tells a story. Unfortunately the story it tells is unremittingly grim, and really just doesn't go anywhere.
In precis.
"The world is a violent and horrible place in which everyone who you might have any sympathy with will be die in a degrading and futile manner."
(, Thu 3 Nov 2011, 14:46, closed)
Probably why I liked it.

(, Thu 3 Nov 2011, 15:36, closed)
The incest
makes it edgy.
