This is a question Your first cigarette

To be honest, inhaling the fumes from some burning leaves isn't the most natural thing in the world.
Tell us about the first time. Where, when, and who were you trying to show off to?

Or, if you've never tried a cigarette, tell us something interesting on the subject of smoking.

Personally, I've never ever smoked a cigarette. Lung damage from pneumonia put me off.

Can I have a history lesson please....
Who started all this smoking shit anyway - who do we point the finger of blame at? Sir Walter Raleigh or whoever he got the idea from. Who the fuck do I castigate?

Some assclown in prehistoric South America.
The habit then traveled north with the Indians, who introduced it to Sir Walter. I suspect that it was one of those things that was originally done by braves to prove that they were well 'ard, like hanging by hooks driven through the skin.

Too bad Wally didn't pick up on that habit instead. Lots less mess and trouble from that, and easier to quit.

^This is wrong^
It started in China: there were two blokes sat having a beer, when a large field of dry wild tobacco caught fire up the road. One bloke said 'that smells nice, lets pop down the shops and buy a packet of fags', and the rest is history.

100% fact.

Disclaimer: above statement may contain traces of lie.

Oh yeah?
Then explain lutefisk. My personal theory is that two drunken Vikings were having a pissing contest and one said, "Hey Sven! I bet you won't eat codfish soaked in lye!"

There is no other rational explanation for this.

Sorry about that rant....
I just wanted to use the word castigate in a qotw : )

As long as it's "castigate"
and not the even-less-fun very similar word...

...although I'd say that even Raleigh might not miss his goolies by now, as he's been dead a while...

Sir Walter Raleigh.....
Did he not invent the bicycle??? ;o)

Or, how about.......
We castrate the inventor of the penny-farthing?

Francais Nicot..
(or whatever his real name is)
smoked some weed in one of his trips abroad, then brought back the wrong type of plant, meaning instead of getting high, you get addicted instead.
May not be true, but as to who to castigate, i feel safe in saying that you can always blame the French.

A form of revenge perhaps?
Maybe the Native Americans deliberately introduced Tobacco-addiction to the Europeans as revenge for the decimation of their population and culture.
