Ignore the moneyWould you like to have your brother back in your life? Or would you like to sit down and speak to him, see if there is anything there worth saving. If yes then increase contact, although make your intentions clear, who knows you could get your brother back. You have nothing to loose.
As for the money, depending on the above you will know what the right thing will be. At worst you can take it and put it in an account for a rainy day of you kids.
