/edit - having said that I did find the 'Michael Parkinson interviewing people at the bus top' bit funny. The rest though is shit, especially Sven Goran Eriksson last night (yes - depsite not finding it that good, I do watch it every week. God I'm so shit....)

# Oh god
Did you see it last night? They've resorted to the Alistair McGowan method of having to tell the audience who they're doing an impression of.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:31, archived)
# same writers
I think.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:32, archived)
# No
I think its different writers because MacGowan is supposedly pissed off that they are essentially ripping off a lot of his characters
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:35, archived)
# didn't he used
to be in the radio version, though?
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:38, archived)
# Oh - I dunno
I just know he is pissed off that Dead Ringers are essentially doing the same material as him - ie BBC News pisstakes, Nigella, Sven Goran Eriksson, etc etc
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:41, archived)
# but...but...but...
...they're impressionists. thats what impressionists do.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:38, archived)
# they paint too
.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:52, archived)
# Ooh Rob,
can we have a Rolf Harris interview?
I think that would be good.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:55, archived)
# I noticed that
EVERY character they did was introduced by "hello, I'm *insert name here*" Truly terrible.
The Steve Irwin impression was shit.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:33, archived)
# I thought his
Ozzy Osbourne impression was good.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:39, archived)
# ahh
good point, that part was actually very funny.
Ozzie fakes the moon landings.
But McKellen (spl?) Brian Blessed, and even Arnie were introduced by their names.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:43, archived)
# Lets face it
if they HADN'T announced those 3, you'd never have been able to tell... except perhaps brian blessed.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:48, archived)
# exactly
which is what makes them so very bad.
But the Dr Who, and Russel Crow as Gladiator ones are very good.... it is hit and miss.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:54, archived)
# Yeah
very true.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:55, archived)
# The WORST impression
was arnie.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:43, archived)
# Oh yeah,
the make up was good, but the impression was shite.
The Alan Rickman was very good.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:45, archived)
# no no no
Phil Cornwall is also on Stell Street (as you probably know) and John Sessions does a fantastic Rickman on that. It doesn't seem right having Cornwall do the impression.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:49, archived)
# even on the radio they had a habit
of spoon feeding the jokes to you, like you're an ITV viewer or something.
and phoning up a receptionist and pretending to be Tony Blair, is not ever going to be side splitting, what can the receptionist do, say 'fuck off tony!', and lose their job? grrrr
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:44, archived)
# it's good
but just a shame you left Tom Baker in the bottom left corner.

That man is God.. (and insane)

You have a woman's bottom melord!
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:32, archived)
# Hehe!
While I was b3ta-ing, I was also looking at a webboard for Battlefield 1942, and someone had this as their avatar. The timing was *perfect*

EDIT: oh dear. It's horribly dark on here. N'er mind
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:36, archived)
# impressionists
never have enough material and end up resorting to obvious gags.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:33, archived)
# all impressionists are shit
period. full stop. fact. the end.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:36, archived)
# I dunno
Monet was quite good really

/artist's smock

# i'll set them up
you volley them home
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:50, archived)
# thank you
thank you, I'm here all week!
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:52, archived)
# I think
van gogh is quite good too - but this joke has already been caned.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 15:28, archived)
# Yes. It is rubbish.
Its such a shame because the radio series was great. I think it just doesn't translate to TV.

Same goes for "People like us". Hilarious on Radio 4, not so great on BBC 2.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:34, archived)
# Was the even better on the radio?
Cos I thought it was brilliant on telly - never heard it on R4
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:45, archived)
# It was much funnier on the radio than on telly
but I didn't find the tv show all that great.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:47, archived)
# the radio show had a certain authentic Radio 4 Documentary
feel about it, which the TV show lacked.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:56, archived)
# And it also had
Brian Perkins* saying "Bo Selecta!" and being all "street" which was just hilarious.

--------------
*a well known Radio 4 announcer to all you people who don't listen to Radio 4 (shame on you, they have great comedy shows, you're really missing out you know! "I'm sorry I havent a clue" is just the funniest thing since sliced bread.)
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 15:00, archived)
# I'm with
Mr.Bucket, although I havent hear ISIHAC for ages.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 15:10, archived)
# Indeed I miss the Wilderbeast Years and Milton Jones
both of which were stunning, though I have some of the episodes on mp3, no where near enough.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 15:12, archived)
# it was great...
on Radio 4 though!

ooops, er.... i agree with him..
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:37, archived)
# Harry Hills David
Dickenson is better than all the dead ringers ones.
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 14:48, archived)
# I AM THE HUNTER!
(, Tue 3 Dec 2002, 15:06, archived)
# Dead Ringers ain't so bad
Certainly about 60x better than Alistair MacGowan. At least on Dead Ringers they don't break in to f'ing song and shite. Plus it's worth it for wossisnames George Bush, and the presence of the legendary Phil "Gilbert" Cornwell.
