Surely he'd be tempted to take a proportion of each one?

You take the red pill you keep the Labor government, you take the Blue pill and wake up to powerful Tories who will show you just how much their trust funds will grow
Edit: now less wordy

I was gonna click this reply
but I preferred the one that got deleted. This new revised version is too wordy - it loses its edge.
edit: much better - snappier and more to the point. Like my banjo string.

Threadjack!
but are there any good ideas how to keep background image transparency without having massive PNG filesize? Gif doesn't seem to work, and I don't want to drop a massive filesize on /board and get lynched. I can get no lower than 743k where gif would be 40k but the background borks. :(

Cheers.
Rather spoils the intended effect popping it on here but I'll never learn otherwise. This is the .gif

GIF 128 No Dither
As transparency (removed the pure white) gets it to 21K.

ooh,
I just uploaded the PNG too!
Thanks! :) Now to test it! I won't start a new thread I think.
EDIT: Thanks all, still leaving white lines inbetween the colour changes and around the 'hidden' objects. I'll keep playing though. :)

I dunno what stopped you gettign a transparent background in the gif.
In GIMP, I get caught out all the time by forgetting to add an alpha channel.

a few options:
pngcrush is a somewhat fiddly to use command-line only png compressor that makes crazy small lossless files
if you use photoshop - the SuperPNG plugin makes reasonably small png files.
some other image editors/converters have compression features.
Generally though, png files are not all that small. So the next option is to reduce the resolution of the image.

Hmm
Been looking at PNGcrush, and looks fiddly. I use Fireworks not photoshop (with a side of illustrator) as that's what I know, normally I .gif my images fine but want to play with things appearing/disappearing on the board.

Ohhhhh, I see.
In which case I'm not being a whole lot of help. Sorry about that.

IrfanView has a plugin for compressing PNGs
However it's not amazing. I saved your GIF as PNG with transparent background and it somes out as about 50k using the default settings, 18k with the PNGOUT plugin. I had a white background in IrfanView when I saved it.

If the semitransparent stuff is mainly in one area you could slice it in to multiple files.
Or go for a 8bit png / gif with a matte of a light grey midway between the board's post colours.
edit: If you like the sound of PNGcrush, there's also psydk.org/PngOptimizer.php . It's stand-alone (you don't need to install it).
