1. Faulty screen with dark band along the bottom.

2. Faulty lid catch, resulting in the top springing up and waking from sleep at random occasions.
3. Faulty screen with white blotches here and there.
4. Superdrive that packed up, trapping a disc inside. Oh, I loved making that phone call to tech support and spending forty minutes with some retard repeatedly telling me to insert the system restore DVD to solve the problem.
Not to mention the two PSU's that have died, one of which caught fire. Yeah, foolish me for buying any of that overpriced crap in the first place.

And your own problem is, I suspect, a buffer overflow issue. Install an additional DIMM in your cistern then reset your alternator, that should see you alright.

My Power Mac is now fucked

Refuses to turn on. Dig through the documentation Apple doesn't want you to read and you find it's either a RAM issue or a CPU issue. Their engineers are advised to yank the CPU and check none of the pins are bust. Great - if they weren't before they probably will be after that.

For the kind of money they ask, their machines should be absolutely flawless. I wish they'd spend more time concentrating on whether their hardware works properly, rather than fucking about with OMG-ultra-thin-but-no-drives-or-anything-useful, dodgy music players, tarted-up magic slates, phones that you can't use to make phone calls, cloud TV or whatever their latest distraction is

Unfortunately true

I'm typing this on a Macbook Pro and I've liked the machines I've had, but the overzealous worship that goes into so much of this is frankly alarming. Apple make nice computers - so do Sony, and so do Toshiba and HP at the higher end of their ranges.

That said, I wouldn't mind one of the Core i7 Macbook Airs for when I travel. I travel a lot and I like the idea of a computer that's actually faster than my MBP, weighing 1.5kg less. Though with the work I do the SSD might be fucked with weeks. Hmmm. This might not be as good an idea as it first looked.

To be fair it is seven years old now

but even so :( It might just be a couple of RAM chips buggered in which case life is easy. If it's the CPU I may as well sell it back to Apple for the enormously generous £30 they'll give me.

It's a late 2005 model

So about six and a half years. They went all-out Intel not all that long after, I think.

What's even more alarming is they haven't bothered changing the case since. They probably should - it weighs a motherfucking ton.
