# never played any of them, what's so good about it?
going by the trailer, its clearly not the graphics. Was that running on last gen?

# They're quite enjoyable games
Been a fan since the first. Graphics took a leap with Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

# For me, it's the exploration element.
Sifting through the ruins of the world, working out just what happened.
Everything you see in the game tells its own little story and uncovering it all for yourself (there's no hand-holding. nothing is spelt out for you) is very addictive.
If you've time to spare, I highly recommend Fallout 3.

# Just get the expansion pack straight off the bat and spare yourself the hideous anticlimax of the original ending.

# Ambience above everything for me.
Scale. Desolation. Fabulous soundtrack. Shiny textures are waaaaay down the list for me.

# Gameplay.
not everything is about graphics.
Depth of story, engaging gameplay, fun weapons, huge open world to explore with their own little secrets to find. Working out just what happened before the bombs hit and after...

# It's a marvellously detailed
Fascinatingly drawn world. There's a real sense of place and of ambience to it. You can lose yourself in sneaking around the wasteland for hours, exploring buildings, stalking enemies, reading notes and trying to work out what happened. Just immensely playable and absorbing. I think my first playthrough of Fallout 3 totalled something like 150 hours.

# Yeah the graphics aren't the best in that clip.
I'll be playing on PC, so I'll mod it if it annoys me. Having said that, I've never bothered modding a Fallout game yet. Once the gameplay kicks in, they're generally very immersive games, and I think once you're into them then the quality of the graphics tends to get forgotten.

# noone in their right mind would spend hours days weeks playing fallout 1 and 2
despite the clunky controls

Completely bonkers, really, but I think we all did. Madness.

# Hype train now boarding.
I have never played a Fallout game. I think they started during my gaming fallow years.

# Fallout 3 and New Vegas are very good.
If you have access to a 360 and plenty of time you could do a great deal worse. Can probably pick them up for buttons these days.
(, Wed 3 Jun 2015, 16:18, archived)
# I'm on PC only at the moment.
I'm guessing a discounted Steam bundle might be imminent though, so I might pick them up. God knows when I'll get round to play them though, truly we are spoiled for choice these days.

Friends are trying to get me into the alpha for Ark: Survival Evolved at the moment, but I'm trying to save up for a new graphics card to replace my good but ancient model.

# I heard a rumour there is a steam sale approaching.
Good time to pick them up. (also PC is the best esp. for Bethesda games, the modding community are brill).

# They're all pretty self contained.
They nod to one another, as they're all set in the same world, but there's no overlapping narrative.
I started with Fallout 3.
