In "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", George Lazenby's only Bond film
At the end, Bond and Tracy get married. As they're driving off for their honeymoon, Blofeld's henchlady, Irma Bunt, shoots Tracy dead. This is possibly what sets Bond off down the rocky road of alcohol, promiscuity and foolhardiness.
In the above, happy-ending-for-Tracy version, it's Bond who dies, leaving Tracy to discover that the fan theory is correct - "James Bond" is merely an alias adopted by a series of secret agents - and she meets the next Bond, as portrayed by Sean Connery.
That's my interpretation anyway.
