# Putting their own watermark on it? That's just low.

# OH GOD
I clicked. And then the popups came to chase me into a state of shock.
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 22:54, archived)
# Not running decent popup killing thingies?
I hear the Google toolbar does an admirable job.

# Oh look

# mozilla firebird does the job!
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 22:58, archived)
# I tried mozilla when I got my new PC
all the icons were wrong and it screwed up my settigns. I never touched it again
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 22:59, archived)
# icons? settings?
it doesn't affect any of that!
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:01, archived)
# Allow me to explain
The icon problem was with the icons on the buttons in mozilla.
It played silly buggers with my internet settings, and just wasn't that good (this is over a year ago, no doubt many bugs have been fixed since)
New XP PC, IE & Outlook Express worked fine, so I used them, now I'm in a rut & have no desire to change. OK?
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:07, archived)
# 100% OK
but IE really is crap!
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:09, archived)
# all the icons were wrong
because it's a different browser to internet exploder. Did you actually give it a chance? Not only is it faster and friendlier than IE it's also a damn site more secure 'cos it doesn't have that activeX bollocks that nobody apart from spammers and virus writers uses any more :)

Oh, and Mozilla and Firebird are 2 completely different things.....
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:05, archived)
# not completely!
and it's going to replace mozilla in the future!
*100% fact*
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:08, archived)
# I say wrong
they were the old Netscape 4.5 icons all jumbled up and not quite fitting into the spaces. I used to be a dyed-in-the-wool Nestcape user, but after 7, it all went crappy, and mozilla was the same story. For me at least.
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:11, archived)
# you should really try out firebird!
it doesn't even need to be installed!
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:13, archived)
# we need version numbers....STAT!
Here's a screenshot of my firebird setup:

clicky!

no dodgy icons there, and they've been the same since I started with FB at 0.6 or thereabouts :)
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:16, archived)
# I just love firebird!
It has the same feel in all OS's
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:22, archived)
# s'fab innit :)
Best thing is, the 0.8 tree is even faster than 0.7.....I just wish I had some modern coding nous so I could contribute....bah.

# b3ta without mozilla just feels terrible!
i've been using it for 2 years now and IE feels like a complete joke!
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:35, archived)
# Mozilla 1.4
Maybe. Thought I'd uninstalled it, but there's something labelled 'Mozilla 1.4' in my add/remove window.
It was November/December time, 2002.
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:27, archived)
# oo bloody 'ell,
that was the time *I* tried Moz for about a day and swiftly binned it faster than something that was binned quickly.

Seriously - get Firebird 0.7 (stable) or if yer feeling brave one of the nightly 0.8 builds. You won't regret it!
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:30, archived)
# OK guys
*looking up & down @ once*
I may consider it. IE does piss me off sometimes. Not remebering what size its window should be, only wanting to save as bitmaps when there's too maby cached files, I could go on...

May give firebird a go when the rest of my life is balanced. New browser is quite an upheaval, no matter how good it is. Thanks
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 23:38, archived)
# that's mozilla-mozilla...
firebird is version 0.7 now!
try it and you'll love it!
the old mozilla is a bit clumsy compared to firebird...

# Google toolbar
is a fantastic invention, particularly if you're in the habit of visiting, um , sites which use a lot of pop-up advertising, um, yes...
(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 22:57, archived)
# those *ahem* sites
are doing some very tricky things lately, google bar doesn't seem enough anymore..

(, Wed 21 Jan 2004, 22:59, archived)
# 99.5% of the time
it does the job. It's an arms race! Google toolbar'll catch up pretty quickly - thing is there are limits on what the sites can do without your express agreement. Which is good.
