My theoryis, and it's completely made up, 'cos I'm no physicist, I'm just insane, that the Universe, while being finite in size, actually has no edges as such. Because space is curved (meh?), you could travel for a certain distance and just get back to where you started.
It's like us living on a round planet. The ground seems flat to us, but walk far enough and you'd eventually get back to where you started.
