THREAD HIGHJACK
Sorry.
But does anyone know the web site that was talking about recording things to mini disk other than music?
I know Fnord knows it, you around mate?
I was asking about the possibilities of it, and if anyone knew if there was any software that would let you do it.

doubtful
minidisc uses lossy compression, doesn't matter so much with moosic, but your data would be fucked

Yeah i know that now
I was just looking for the web site that explained it all to pass on to someone else that just asked me the same question.

There are 'Data' minidiscs, that are high capacity...
...I have a Four Track recorder that uses them.
They are relatively expensive though, and not readily availibe. So probably not worth looking into.
[edit] just read Bob the dinosaur's post below... I still use them...sniff

Bloody hell
a new 4-track is probably cheaper than a six-pack of tapes ;-)

ey op,
if hes talking about the sony 4 track (forget model name) its a lovely piece of tech, and the md's although expensive (you can get them for about 3.50 near Guildhall uni) give great quality tunage, and make it way easier to record stuff at home.

MD can be used
as a data medium. It stores 135MB, you need a special drive, and more expensive high-quality disks (£10 each, last time I checked). It got out evolved by CR-RW and I doubt anyone uses them anymore.

Jolly good film,
except I have suffered the torture of being asked to demonstrate 'The Truffle Shuffle'ever since it came out.
What happened to that 'whacky' kid who played Chunk?

I just did,
His name is Jeff Cohen and the last thing he was in was called Perfect Harmony in 1991, after that...nothing.

He's now a lawyer!
I wonder if he does the Truffle Shuffle for his clients?
Wouldn't he make a great interviewee for us!

I
remember a friend of mine talking about buying a MD drive for his PC sometime last year, but I'm not sure if they were ever released.
There must be some fiddle to use the sony net MD players for file storage.

you can
it's bloody tricky.. & quite slow and you can fit about 60-80 mb on a MD.
The hassle isn't worth it. the more the data is unlike music the more error correction you need and the less data will fit.

O rite,
I thought someone said it was about 130mb.
Do you have a site/tutorial on how you can do the transfer anyway ?
Id still like to check it out, always willing to learn new ideas
